IF YOU CAN READ THIS, THE B%TCH FELL OFF THE BACK!
NOT QUITE! Women have been riding motorcycles for a very long time. It may have started with riding on the back with boyfriends or husbands, or some were tomboys who rode dirt bikes, but today women makeup 10% of all riders with more than 1,000 female-only motorcycle clubs nationwide. Gone forever are the images of “Biker Chicks” or “Biker Mamas.”

Women bikers differ from men by being more safety conscious. According to the Motorcycle Industry Council, women makeup 1/3 of all graduates from motorcycle safety classes. Once women found bikes to that fit and learned the rules of the road, its been fresh air and blue skies ever since.

There are several women’s organizations through out the USA. The oldest organization was an idea conceived by a young woman in the late 30’s. Linda Dugeau of Providence, Rhode Island compiled a list of 51 women in 1940 and organized Motor Maids, Inc. The American Motorcycle Association issued the club a charter in 1941. The Mission of the Club was to unite women motorcyclists in promoting motorcycle interest. Membership consists of women who legally own and operate a motorcycle or one belonging to a family member.

Women on Wheels Motor Association is an International organization serving women motorcycle enthusiasts around the world. If you are a lady who loves bikes of all types, then this is the group for you! This organization welcomes your family members and you to indulge your passion for riding with other discriminating hobbyists, at rallies, chapter meetings, tours, or other events. Their mission is to unite all women motorcycle enthusiasts for recreation, education, mutual support, recognition and to promote a positive image of motorcycling.

Women in the Wind, Inc. has been promoting a positive image of women motorcyclist since 1979. They welcome all types. WITW strives to educate its members in motorcycle safety and maintenance, unite women motorcyclists with friends of common interest, and promote a positive image to the public of women on motorcyclist.

Leather & Lace was established in 1983 to bring women together who have a serious interest in motorcycling and in making a difference in the lives of others. The group is involved in charitable activities and involvement with their community to insure the quality of life for children. They strongly believe that children hold the keys to the future and must carry on their heritage. Their name says it all: “Leather” stands for the inner strength that women possess and the physical strength they demonstrate in handling their motorcycles. “Lace” stands for their femininity, an intimate and important part of all women.

Sirens Motorcycle Club’s purpose is to bring women motorcycle riders together to celebrate the power of sisterhood. Their values are RESPECT for each other’s individuality; COMPASSION for women and children with needs we can help meet; SINCERITY in getting together, being real and having a good time.
