Can You Smell That Salty Air?
Lone Star Happening
“Galveston, oh Galveston, I can hear your seaways crashing.”
This little island at the south of Houston was immortalized by Glen Campbell in the 60’s. Now it is getting fame from another direction, The Lone Star Rally.
If you haven’t been yet, shame on you. The Rally is free (or at least to get in), from there you can spend as much as you can afford. The number of vendors is astronomical. If what you want can’t be found you just haven’t looked enough, I guarantee it is there somewhere.
I have been to all of them Sturgis, Loudon, Daytona, and Laguna Seca. As you would say “I’ve seen it all”. Galveston is not that big yet, but just you wait it won’t be long now. I estimated over 200,000, Jerry (the promoter) argues more. Anyway it isn’t as big as Daytona or Sturgis, yet.
The hurricane last year delayed the rally a month, but didn’t dampen the spirit. Everyone had a great time, including those of us who had to work. There are so many things to do and see: almost every building has a historical marker, there are curio shops, clothing stores, and restaurants of every kind. If you like food from Greek, Mexican, to Sea food, it is there in great abundance. There is no reason to ever go hungry for what you like.
Come join me for the next Lone Star Rally. We will be on Ocean Side and 23rd, look for the handsome guy in the wheelchair with a big smile on his face. Remember November 2-5 2006 Lone Star Rally Galveston, Texas See ya thar!
PS: I hear there is going to be a Battle Ship in port this year that you can tour!!
