The chase began when a motorcycle driver fled from a patrol car during a routine traffic stop, police said. It ended when the driver ran out of gas on southbound Interstate 35 near Northwest and Regal Row.

On April 24, The Colony resident Stephen Edwards was seriously injured in a traffic accident while riding his motorcycle southbound on Main Street.

The accident highlights the importance of drivers being aware of motorcyclists, which are "roughly unprotected and much more likely to be injured or killed in a crash than other vehicle drivers," according to a city proclamation read by Mayor Joe McCourry at last week's city council meeting.

It must have been a wild ride. Japanese media say a Harley-Davidson motorcycle lost in last year's tsunami has washed up on a Canadian island about 4,000 miles away.
